How booking a Hallstatt trip works

1 · Check the time in Hallstatt itself

Many day tours from Salzburg and Vienna stop at other lakes and towns on the way. Compare the length of the stop in Hallstatt, not just the length of the tour.

2 · Check what is included

Some tours include the salt mine and its funicular; many do not. The salt mine visit needs at least three hours, so a short stop in the village cannot fit it in.

3 · Plan around the crowds and the season

In summer the fullest buses into Hallstatt are the mid-morning ones. The Dachstein cable car and caves run from May to the start of November; the salt mine stays open into January.
